Opened in July 2010. Tapgol Trail, the starting point, has been known to be a road used by Buddhist nuns from around Donghwasa Temple used to go to the temples for asceticism, e.g. Yangjinam and Naewonam. As the road is a dirt road offering great tree shade all the way to the entrance of Donghwasa Temple, it is especially recommended in summer. If you clear the wooden staircase of more than 200 steps, you will arrive at Sangsanggol featuring a tree with a clock. If you make a reservation, you will be able to take advantage of the forest guide from Tapgol Trail to Sangsanggol. (삇 +82-53-982-0005) Entering the precincts of Donghwasa Temple, you will encounter Buddhist cultural relics, such as Bongseoru, Daewoongjeon, Biroam and Tongil Daebul. Bongseoru, a building representing Donghwasa Temple, means a 'many-storied building with the nest of a phoenix.' The name Donghwasa Temple (旅먫룾野) originates from a phoenix, known to build a nest only in the royal foxglove tree, and a 'royal foxglove tree flower.' The big natural stone in the middle of the stairs to the multi-stored building symbolizes the tail of the phoenix, and the three round stones symbolize the eggs of the phoenix. Legend has it that, if you touch the stones, you will have a son, and your wishes will come true. Walking down toward Bonghwangmun, the old entrance to Donghwasa Temple, you will arrive at the 쁱oad to Pokpogol, the highlight of course #7. You will encounter a dirt road and a refreshing valley here. After a return-trip of Pokpogol, you will come down to Bonghwangmun (Donghwasa Temple Iljumun). Then, you will find an image of seated Buddha carved on a cliff on your left. Buddhist master Shimji, founder of Donghwasa Temple, is said to have carved this Buddhist image in person.
