Under the theme of ‘Performance as Network: Arts, City, Culture,’ the PSi Daegu 2018 will be held for the first time in Daegu, Korea. The PSi Daegu is expected to gather around 200 participants from the field of performing arts. The main events include an opening ceremony, a plenary session, a PSi 24th anniversary party which will be held at EXCO and other events held at the Daegu Art Factory during the conference periods.
According to the official website, the PSi refers to Performance Studies international founded in 1997 to promote communication and exchange among artists, thinkers, activists and academics working in the field of performance. The key issue for the PSi is exploring two overlapping networks regarding data networks and human networks in the performance arena. This year’s topics cover creating networks in performance environments, performance networks from beyond and around without boundaries or borders; historical imagination theatrical representations; cognitive science performance studies, and so on.
The keynote session will be delivered by Mr. Yun-Cheol, Kim, a theater practitioner and scholar, from S. Korea and Ms. Marianne Weems, a theater and opera director, a teacher, and the co-founder of an award-winning performance from the U.S. In total, 130 participants from the 97 sessions will present up-to-dated studies related to performance arts.
Beside the main session, a PSi Future Advisory Board (FAB) Summer School will be held from July 1st to 7th, 2018 at the Degu Art Factory. A summer school open workshop is supposed to prepare an introductory session for the designated participants focusing on the works of the Theatre Troup TRAIN. In addition, there will be many events related to performance arts such as a performance from the Daegu Civil Dance Group and a conference from the Korean Drama Association, and a book exhibit.
