EXCO is leaping forward for a global exhibition and convention center. EXCO has so far held numerous international events and contributed to publicizing Daegu to the world as well as to the development of industries by holding the regional specialized industry exhibitions. In addition, it held about 1,300 exhibitions and conventions annually and drew 2.3 million visitors on an annual average, thereby making continuous growth.

◆Daegu’s representative landmark
EXCO is Daegu’s representative company that supports its MICE industry, which stands for the comprehensive serviced business of the meeting, incentive, convention, and exhibition. The company opened in April 2001 with the purpose of vitalizing the local economy and supporting the export of its small and medium enterprises (SMEs) through exhibitions and conventions. EXCO draws, plans, and holds about 1,380 exhibitions and conventions annually. In 2018, the visitors to EXCO amounted to about 2.3 million. Last year, EXCO reached KRW 24.2 billion in sales, KRW 800 million in earnings, and 59% in operation rate, thereby surpassing the initial target goals despite difficult conditions. EXCO attributes the surplus business to the successful drawing and holding of large international events, such as the 14th International Congress of Parasitology and the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) Asia-Pacific, thanks to its aggressive marketing.
Once the construction of the second exhibition halls building is completed in February 2021, it is expected to boast of greater competitiveness in drawing large international events. With the construction, EXCO will get to secure exhibition space of about 30,000 ㎡, which is necessary to commonly hold large international events. The groundbreaking ceremony for the construction was held on July 2, and EXCO is working hard multifariously to reinforce its global competitiveness in terms of human resources and exhibition brand power together with its external infrastructure.
◆To grow into a global exhibition and convention center
EXCO has played the role of a lever for local industries to grow by holding exhibitions on industries that Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do Province specialize in, drawing foreign buyers, and increasing the exports of the participating local companies. In its early days, EXCO held the “big three exhibitions” on textiles, machines, and eyeglasses, which are the specialized industries of Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do Province. Then, from 2004, it helped the International Green Energy Expo and the International Fire Safety & Security Expo grow into the representative exhibitions of Korea.
This year, it will expand new businesses to prepare for the changing business management environment and the construction of the second exhibition building. Representative exhibitions it has hosted are the Korea International Cooling Industry Expo 2019, Science Education Expo Korea 2019, and the Daegu Active Senior Festival.
With the growth of its exhibitions, it has become possible for EXCO to hold international exhibitions in terms of not only scale but also quality. As EXCO’s representative exhibitions have functioned as outposts for the creation of profit and advancement into the domestic and global markets of the participating companies, not only have the exhibitions grown in status, but the participation of global companies from overseas is also heating up.
During the Daegu International Future Auto EXPO held in November last year, 23 companies from 7 countries, including global companies such as Siemens of Germany and Dassault Systeme of France, participated in droves and held 129 booths. This year, the event will be held earlier for 4 days from October 17 to 20. Equally, global companies participated in droves in the International Green Energy Expo & Conference 2019 held last April, thereby drawing about 32,000 visitors and enjoying great success. Eight companies among the global top 10 solar cell module companies, such as JA Solar and Trina Solar, also participated in the exhibition. During the export business meetings held with invited foreign buyers, about 100 companies from 27 countries, including the United States and Europe, participated recording USD 930 million worth of export business meetings and USD 83 million worth of contracts.
